March 13th Jhonathan Fernandes Torres de Souza

Nest Tuesday, March 13th, master candidate Jhonathan Fernandes Torres de Souza, advised by Prof. Sérgio Pacca will present the seminar “Low Carbon Scenarios for Sao Paulo State’s Energy Sector”. The seminar takes place in room T1, building M1 at 12:30.

Abstract:
In the context of climate change, studies have forecasted low carbon scenarios at regional level; some of them has focused the energy sector. In the State of Sao Paulo, energy related emissions represent more than half of total emissions. In the present moment, low carbon studies have proposed scenarios based on not yet mature technologies entirely. The present work aims to produce two low carbon scenarios for Sao Paulo’s energy sector from 2016 to 2050. The preliminary results show that, for baseline scenario, energy demand would have an average annual growth of 2.6%, reaching 170.5 Mtep in 2050, and means 235.3 MtCO2 emitted. In the first low carbon scenario (CDM approved technologies) would enable a reduction of 17% from baseline emissions, however keeping 22.5% above the base year emissions. In the other hand, the second low carbon scenario would enable a reduction of 45% from baseline emissions and, although it happens just in 2030, the 20% goal of the Regional Climate Change Policy.
