June 5th Mariana Chrispim

Next Tuesday, June 5th, Mariana Chrispim, PhD candidate advised by Prof. Marcelo Antunes Nolasco, will present the seminar “Analysis of prospects and constraints of resources recovery in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants”. The seminar takes place in room T1, building M1 at 12:30.

Abstract:

The wastewater treatment systems contain important resources and can generate value-added products, such as: renewable energy, fertilizers, reclaimed water, cellulose, alginate, metals, sand, bioplastic, and others. However, currently the predominant practices have been the wastewater collection and treatment and the disposal of treated effluent in the environment, without its recovery and recycling. In this context, this study proposes to address the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with the approach of resource recovery under the conceptual, economic, environmental and technological focus. Among the specific objectives of this research are: to characterize the material flows of a WWTP located in São Paulo macrometropolis; and to perform a collection of data about the possibilities of improvement of the existing processes and the operational stages with the definition of operational and technology strategies of resource recovery. It is expected, based on the results to be obtained, to contribute to create technical and scientific subsidies to the planning and retroffiting or upgrade of WWTP with the addition of resource recovery from wastewater.
