Student from the Postgraduate Program in Sustainability receives state award linked to the environment

This Thursday (16), the State Department of Infrastructure and Environment promoted, in São José do Rio Preto, the Articulated Team and Articulator Interlocutor 2021 Award. Representatives from all the regions of São Paulo, interlocutors or interlocutor team of the Blue Green City Program (PMVA) were awarded.

Among the award winners was the interlocutor of the program in Santos, the engineer Fernando Souza de Almeida, who was chosen among the teams from the municipalities of Baixada Santista, Litoral Norte, and Vale do Ribeira.

A career public servant, Fernando joined the Municipal Administration in 2007. He has worked in the Secretariat of Environment (Semam) since 2017, the year in which he began to work in the PMVA deputy. He took over the interlocution of the program in 2019, remaining until the present day.

The awardee has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializations in Occupational Safety Engineering and Environmental MBA, in Integrated Management Systems, a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, all from Santa Cecilia University, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Sustainability (Environmental Management) from EACH/USP.

The engineer highlighted the importance of the award received, as well as emphasized the relevance of the state program.

“The award represents a maturation process of my relationship with the Program, a connection that began more than two years ago, in May 2019. I also see it as the coronation of a successful work of interlocution and dialogue throughout the process,” said the engineer, recalling that the Program can be even broader.

“The VerdeAzul brings with it the opportunity to spread good actions developed to other municipalities, always thinking in favor of improving local environmental management,” added Almeida.

BLUE GREEN MUNICIPALITY PROGRAM

The Municipal Green Blue Program (PMVA) was launched in 2007 by the Government of the State of São Paulo, through the State Secretary of Environment, currently the Secretary of Infrastructure and Environment (Sima). It has the innovative purpose of monitoring and supporting the efficiency of environmental management with the decentralization and valorization of the local environmental agenda, promoted in the municipalities of São Paulo

The main objective of the PMVA is to stimulate and help São Paulo’s municipalities in the elaboration and execution of their strategic public policies, in favor of sustainable development in the state of São Paulo.

The Green-Blue City Program awards the cities recognized as examples of local environmental management and sustainability. All 645 municipalities in São Paulo are evaluated. The 85 tasks of the PMVA are linked to 10 directives: sustainable municipality, environmental structure and education, environmental council, biodiversity, water management, urban forestry, air quality, soil use, treated sewage, and solid waste.
