“Dente de Leite” (Milk Tooth)

The    “Dente de Leite” (Milk Tooth) bulletin is a partnership between the teaching staff of the Pediatric Dentistry discipline of the Children’s health Department at FORP-USP and students on the Post Graduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry and Radio USP (http//jornal.usp.br). It is part of the “Momento Odontologia” (Dentistry moment) program which airs on radio USP. The “Dente de Leite” bulletin addresses aspects related to health with an emphasis on oral health, of those who are pregnant, babies, children and adolescents in a simple and scientifically based manner. It allows for a community channel between the University and the wider society, fulfilling an important role in the University extension area. The “Dente de Leite” bulletin is aired every two weeks with the objective of popularising Pediatric Dentistry knowledge which allows for society to have free access and quality information on Children’s oral health. It is worth noting that this activity relies on the participation of students on the Post Graduation Program in Pediatric Dentistry at FORP/USP. They write guidelines on specific topics under the supervision of the Pediatric Dentistry teaching staff that are responsible for the recording of the radio programs.

New Technologies, new forms of communication and new teaching ways have been shown to be a necessary and essential part of contemporary society. Social networks have created a new form of communication and interaction, both on a personal and professional level. At the end of 2017, while observing this trend, the Pediatric Dentistry discipline at FORP-USP created the USP Pediatric Dentistry  Ribeirão page  (@odontopediatriauspribeirao)  on   Facebook and on Instagram.They contain weekly educational material for the community, students and health professionals.  Pediatric Dentistry courses are disclosed by the Professors as well as Doctoral and Master’s theses defended in the Post Graduate program of the Children’s Health Department. Challenges are given to the Undergraduate students in Pediatric Dentistry I and II, among others. The more specific participation of students in the Post Graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry takes place through periodic posts of scientific and educational interest. Currently, there are about 350 posts on the page and approximately 1600 followers on   Facebook and 2000 followers on  Instagram.

YOUTUBE CHANNEL “PROJETO DENTE DE LEITE” ( PROJECT MILK TOOTH ) – MUSICALIZATION OF KNOWLEDGE

This project, which started in 2017, has as the main objective to create music for promoting Pediatric Dentistry health. After the approval of the project   “Promoting health in Pediatric Dentistry : Musicalization of knowledge” in 2019  by the 4th public notice SANTANDER/USP/FUSP to promote cultural and extension initiatives. Promoted by the Pro-Rectory of culture and extension at USP, the teaching staff and students on the Post Graduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry started to record and promote the songs. There are 3 songs currently available on the youtube channel, with the “Zé Furinho” song the most known with over 2300 views. The project includes special participation by the children’s choir , Sathya Say of Ribeirão Preto, the Maestro Sergio Alberto de Oliveira, the musician Monitor Gutierry Zambonini, do Aranjo. Musical production is represented by   Marcio Coelho and Audiovisual production by  Ana Favaretto. There are other songs being worked on for the possible recording of a CD.
