International Agreements and Partnerships

AGREEMENTS

1 DUAL DEGREE AGREEMENT – UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL AUTÓNOMA DE MÉXICO (UNAM)

In 2017,  Prof. Dr. Higinio Arzate, head of the Laboratory of cellular and molecular biology  at  UNAM, gave a conference to students and professor on the Post graduate course in Pediatric Dentistry on the topic of  “Human cementum proteins-derived peptides: their potential on tissue regeneration”.

During the visit, partnerships were established through a proposal to carry out multicentre research.

In 2018 an agreement was signed between the Ribeirão   Faculty of Dentistry of the University of São Paulo and UNAM. The purpose of this academic cooperation is to co-advise PhD and double degree students under the guidance of   Prof. Dra. Raquel Assed Bezerra Segato (Brazil) and  Profs. Drs. Edgar Arturo Zenteno Galindo and Higinio Arzate (Mexico).

 

2 ACADEMIC COOPERATION AGREEMENT – UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO (UIC) – USA

Aimed at academic cooperation for the purpose of exchange programs for students, Professors, researchers and members of the technical administrative team. In 2018, a partnership with the University of Illinois in Chicago was established under the guidance of   Prof. Dra. Raquel Assed Bezerra da Silva, Professor on the Post graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry.

 

3ACADEMIC COOPERATION AGREEMENT – UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE TUCUMÁN (ARGENTINA)

Since 2004, research and exchange projects have been developed for Professors and students on the Postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry and the National University of Tucumán (Argentina). It includes the participation of   Prof. Dra. Marta Estela Saravia (Professor in the area of microbiology at the National University of Tucumán and a graduate of the PGP in Pediatric Dentistry) and Prof. Claes-Gorän Emilson (Department of Cariology, Institute of Odontology the Sahlgrenska Academy at Gothenburg University – Sweden).

On the 20/12/2013, the agreement between FORP/USP and the National University of   Tucumán was renewed – Argentina. Prof. Léa Assed B. da Silva as the coordinator in Brazil and Prof Marta Estela Saravia as the coordinator in Argentina.

 

4 ACADEMIC COOPERATION AGREEMENT – UNIVERSIDAD MAYOR DE SAN MARCOS (PERU)

In 2018, academic cooperation between the PGP in Pediatric Dentistry at FORP/USP and the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos (Peru) was established. The program has already received students from Peru on monitored visits and students to study on the Postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry.

5 ACADEMIC COOPERATION AGREEMENT – UNIVERSITY OF GRONINGEN (NETHERLANDS)

The Program counts on a solid partnership between Prof. Dr. Fabricio Kitazono de Carvalho, a permanent Professor of this Program, and Prof. Dr.David John Manton, from the University of Groningen. With the formalization of the Academic Cooperation Agreement through the agreement signed between the Pro-Rectory of Graduate Studies of the University of São Paulo and the University of Groningen. This partnership was further strengthened in 2023.

 

INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

1 UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON – DENTAL SCHOOL (USA)

Professors on the Postgraduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry maintain exchanges  with the University of Washington – Dental School through the development of joint research projects, visits and teaching courses.

 

2 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO/UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA (USA)

In 2009, Prof Raquel Assed Bezerra Segato, permanent Professor on the Post Graduate Program of Pediatric Dentistry, carried out a Post-Doctoral internship at the Forsyth Institute – Harvard University, Cambridge/USA.  It included a FAPESP grant, under the supervision of   Prof. Ricardo A. Battaglino, in the Department of Cytokine Biology. In 2010, Prof. Ricardo A. Battaglino, currently linked to the University of Colorado, Denver/USA, was accredited in the Post graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry for being responsible for the “Dental resorptions” discipline, which has been taught systematically.

 

3 THE SAHLGRENSKA ACADEMY AT GOTHENBURG UNIVERSITY – DEPARTMENT OF CARIOLOGY AT THE INSTITUTE OF ODONTOLOGY (SWEDEN)

In 2006, an exchange program was established with Prof. Claes-Göran Emilson (Institute of Odontology, The Sahlgrenska Academy at Gothenburg University) for the development of research projects in collaboration with professors on the Postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry.

 

4 UNIVERSITAT DE BARCELONA (ESPANHA)

In 2007, research work started in collaboration with the University of Barcelona, through   Prof. Patrícia Gatón Hernández (Pediatric Dentistry discipline – University of Barcelona), and with   Prof Esther Ruiz de Castañeda Regojo (Spain).In 2008, Prof. Dra. Patrícia Gatón Hernández was accredited on the Post graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry as one of the professors responsible for the “Clinical research in Pediatric Dentistry II”, which has been taught systematically.

 

5 UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS (DENMARK)

In 2010,  Prof. Maria Bernadete Sasso Stuani,Professor on the Postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry concluded a Post-doctoral internship at the University of   Aarhus – Denmark, under the supervision of Prof Dra. Birte Melsen. In 2011, Prof. Dr. Michel Dalstra, at the University of Aarhus – Denmark, was accredited as one of the Professosr responsible for the  “801.5708 scientific methodologies in orthodontic research”.

 

6 UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH, SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE – DEPARTMENT OF ORAL BIOLOGY (USA)

In December 2013, Dr Erika Calvano Kuchler, then of the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, Department of Oral Biology-USA, visited the Children’s health department to discuss and elaborate collaborative research projects between the two institutions. In August 2014, Dr. Erika initiated a post-doctoral internship with an “Attracting young talent “scholarship from CNPq, under the supervision of Prof. Dra. Léa Assed B. da Silva, Professor on the Postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry at FORP/USP. In turn, a research exchange with the University of Pittsburgh was established. In 2015, collaborative projects began following a human genetics research line. On 01/05/2016,  Dr. Erika Calvano Kuchler was awarded with the   “Young research assistant” by FAPESP. (Proc. 2015/06866-5) to develop the project “An evaluation of the role of estrogen in dentofacial development”, in conjunction with the Postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry. In addition to teaching the disciplines,  Dr. Erika Calvano Kuchler (permanent professor on the Post graduate program in Pediatric Dentistry at FORP/USP) guides and tutors students on the program. The projects have been carried out in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Alexandre R. Vieira, from the University of Pittsburgh.

 

7 YEDITEPE UNIVERSITY – DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY
(TURQUIA)

In 2015, scientific collaboration began with Prof. Dra. Zerrin Abbasoğlu, of the Yeditepe University to carry out research work in partnership between the two universities.

 

8 UNIVERSITY OF REGENSBURG (ALEMANHA)

In 2017, scientific collaboration with   Prof. Dr. Christian Kirschneck and Prof. Dr. Petter Proff, of the orthodontics department at the University of Regensburg started with the development of joint research projects in a partnership between the two universities.

 

9 ALBERT EINSTEIN MEDICAL CENTER (USA)

Professors on the Postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry have developed research projects in collaboration with Prof. Frederic Barnett, since 2012.

 

10 UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL (USA)

In 2016, research in collaboration with Prof. Dra. Julie Marchesan, of the  University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill began with the visit of a PhD student  (Katharina Morant Holanda de Oliveira) to develop an internship with a scholarship  “Auxílio Mobilidade” Santander – Pro-Rectory and Postgraduation notice 4/2016”.

From the 01/08/2016 to 31/07/2017, Prof. Fábio Lourenço Romano (permanent Professor on the program) carried out a Post-doctoral internship at the department of orthodontics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, EUA, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tung Thanh Nguyen.

 

11 UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA (CANADÁ)

In 2019, Prof. doctor Carlos Flores-Mir, Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta (Canada), visited FORP/USP to give lectures to professors and students of the Program and guests and, on that occasion, the joint development of research projects was discussed.

With the entry of Prof. doctor Murilo Fernando Neuppamann Feres as Permanent Lecturer in the Graduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry in 2020, the officialization of the Agreement for the exchange of students, professors/researchers and members of the technical-administrative team between the Program and the University of Alberta began – Canada, institution where the professor carried out his postdoctoral internship.

The experience acquired by the professor during his internship abroad is currently directed to the development of clinical studies and systematic reviews and meta-analyses, in addition to teaching the discipline “8015730 – Evidence-Based Dentistry: Production, Interpretation and Transfer to Clinical Practice ”, with the participation of Prof. doctor Carlos Flores Mir, acting as one of those responsible for the discipline.

12 UNIVERSITY OF TURKU AND TAMPERE UNIVERSITY (FINLAND)
In 2023, a partnership began with the University of Turku, Turku/Finland, with the arrival of PhD student Marília Canadas, through the PDSE internship. In 2024, the Academic Cooperation Agreement began to be processed in order to promote the exchange of students, Professors researchers and members of the technical-administrative team.

13 VRIJE UNIVERSITEIT AMSTERDAM (AMSTERDAM)

In the four-year period 2021-2024, Prof. Dr. Fernanda de Carvalho Panzeri, a permanent Professor of this Program, began a partnership with Prof. Dr. Floris Jacob Bikker, from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in Germany.

14 UNIVERSITY OF BONN (GERMANY)

In 2023, a partnership was struck up to develop the research project of Prof. Dr. Mirian Aiko Nakame Matsumoto, a permanent Professor of the Program, in partnership with Dr. Erika Calvano Küchler, head of the Oral Biology Research Laboratory of the Centre for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Prof. Dr. Christian Kirschneck, Director of the Centre for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine at the University of Bonn.

15 UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT LOS ANGELES (USA)

Permanent Professors of the Program maintain an academic-scientific partnership with Prof. Dr. Pamela Den Besten from the University of California, San Francisco and with Prof. Dr. Yvonne Kapila, formerly of the University of California, San Francisco and currently at the University of California, Los Angeles.

16 UNIVERSITY OF LYON (FRANCE)

Professor Sandra Fukada, a permanent faculty member of this Program, has established a collaboration with the research group led by Prof. Saida Mebarek from the University of Lyon in France, which has extensive experience in the extraction, purification and characterization of extracellular vesicles from in vivo and in vitro samples. During Prof. Sandra's visit to the University of Lyon in 2022, she gave a seminar and followed experiments on the isolation and cultivation of primary osteoblasts and chondrocytes. More recently, they were awarded the SPRINT 2/2024 project – Research Mobility Project (FAPESP) which was designed with the aim of consolidating this collaboration between two well-established research groups at the University of São Paulo, Brazil and the University of Lyon, France. In this project, bilateral exchanges of researchers and students were proposed for face-to-face interactions and development of experimental protocols, lectures and meetings with the aim of planning new
collaboration projects.

17 EVANGELICAL UNIVERSITY OF EL SALVADOR (EL SALVADOR)

Through Professor Dr. Jorge Esquiche León, a permanent Professor in the Department, academic and scientific cooperation has been maintained with Professor Dr. Florence Juana María Cuadra-Zelaya from the Evangelical University of El Salvador. This has mainly been the sharing of clinical-pathological data in stomatopathology. This collaboration was especially intense during the doctorate of student Magdalena Reyes. In fact, after her graduation in December 2024, she was invited to act as Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Dentistry at this institution.

18 HARVARD SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE/ THE FORSYTH INSTITUTE (USA)

The Program’s permanent faculty members maintain an academic- scientific partnership with the faculty from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine/The Forsyth Institute, United States.
