What are Centros Acadêmicos?
Centros Acadêmicos (CAs) are student-formed entities that represent students within the university. They act as a bridge between students and the institution, helping to communicate academic demands, organize activities, and strengthen university life.
Beyond representation, CAs promote integration, welcome, and initiatives that make the university experience more complete, going beyond the classroom.
In Mecânica and Mecatrônica at the Escola Politécnica da USP, this representation is carried out by CAM.
What is CAM?
CAM is the Centro Acadêmico of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering at the Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo.
Its activities involve student representation in academic matters, as well as welcome and guidance throughout undergraduate studies. CAM also offers a physical space dedicated to rest, study, and socializing, contributing to student well-being on a daily basis.
How does CAM act?
- Student representation:
Acts in communication between students, student representatives, and academic bodies. - Academic support:
Organizes review sessions, guidance, and initiatives to support student performance. - Student retention:
Offers resources such as a library, loan of calculators, lab coats, and goggles. - Integration and socializing:
Promotes spaces and activities that strengthen the community among students.
Internal projects
Among the student-focused initiatives, CAM develops:
- Pro-aluno workshop
- Library
- Loan of calculators, lab coats, and goggles
- Contact with Representantes Discentes (RDs)
- “Fujas”, review sessions organized before exams
These actions aim to support students throughout their undergraduate studies and contribute to their retention, organization, and academic performance.
Extension and connection with the market
CAM also acts in extension and professional development initiatives.
In partnership with Poli Cidadã, it organizes the Toy Workshop and the Cart Workshop, which bring children from public schools in the USP region to the Escola Politécnica for practical activities.
Additionally, CAM organizes SEMOV, Semana de Engenharia Mecânica e Mecatrônica, an event that brings students closer to companies through lectures, workshops, technical visits, and booths.
Why does this matter?
CAM’s activities contribute to a more complete education, combining representation, academic support, integration, university extension, and connection with the market.
Thus, the Centro Acadêmico strengthens the student experience and reinforces the university’s role as a space for technical, civic, and professional education.
