At Poli-USP, there is a wide range of exchange opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students, including several partnerships with internationally renowned engineering schools.
UNDERGRADUATE
In the undergraduate Mechanical Engineering course at PME, there are two main exchange modalities: Double Degree (DD) and Aproveitamento de Estudos (AE).
Double Degree (DD)
In the Double Degree modality, the student obtains, at the end of the exchange, an official diploma from the institution chosen for the study program, in addition to the Poli-USP diploma.
The program lasts 2 years (in some cases up to 3 years depending on the chosen institution), and typically begins in the eighth semester of the undergraduate course. Due to the longer duration, the graduation is expected to be extended by 1 year.
Applications for the Double Degree program must be submitted in the sixth semester of the course, and are followed by the steps below:
Submission of documents (Academic Transcript, Resume, Motivation Letter, etc.) and selection of the desired educational institution for the exchange program (typically more than one option can be chosen, up to a certain limit, with an order of priority).
Interview of the candidate with members of the Poli-USP jury team.
Internal analysis of the interview score, documents, and Academic Transcript (overall course grade is an important selection criterion).
Announcement of pre-selected candidates.
Additional steps (such as interviews in English or in the native language of the chosen country, submission of recommendation letters, etc.), depending on the chosen institution.
Announcement of the final result (the final decision is made by the chosen institution).
Several scholarships are offered to students selected for the Double Degree program, and they vary according to the chosen country and/or educational institution. More information about scholarships can be found here.
Poli-USP has partnerships with several renowned mechanical engineering schools abroad, including:
France: École polytechnique, Écoles Centrales (CentraleSupélec, École Centrale de Nantes, École Centrale de Lyon, École Centrale de Lille, École Centrale Mediterranée), ParisTech (Art et Métier ParisTech, Mines ParisTech), Grenoble INP, École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Étienne, ISAE-SUPAERO.
Germany: Technische Universität Darmstadt, Technische Universität München.
Belgium: Université Catholique de Louvain.
Italy: Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino.
Portugal: Instituto Superior Técnico.
Aproveitamento de Estudos (AE)
In the Aproveitamento de Estudos modality, the student studies for one or two semesters at a partner university abroad, with equivalency of courses taken at the destination institution to the Poli-USP course curriculum. Unlike Duplo Diploma, the student does not obtain a diploma from the foreign institution at the end of the program.
The program typically lasts 1 to 2 semesters, and generally begins between the fifth and seventh semester of the undergraduate course. Due to the shorter duration, the exchange normally does not extend the total graduation time, provided there is adequate course planning.
Applications for the Aproveitamento de Estudos program must be submitted according to the deadlines established by the AUCANI notices, and are followed by the steps below:
Submission of documents (Academic Transcript, Resume, Motivation Letter, proof of language proficiency, etc.) and selection of destination universities (typically more than one option can be chosen, with an order of priority).
Interview (when required by the notice or the destination university).
Internal analysis.
Announcement of pre-selected candidates by the Poli-USP committee.
Additional steps (interviews with the foreign university, submission of specific documentation, etc.), depending on the chosen institution.
Announcement of the final result (the final decision is made by the partner university).
Several scholarships are offered to students selected for the Aproveitamento de Estudos program, and they vary according to the chosen country and/or educational institution. More information about scholarships can be found here.
