Useful information
The internship is an important stage in Mechanical Engineering education, as it brings the student closer to professional practice and allows the application of knowledge developed throughout the course in real work situations.
Through the internship, the student has the opportunity to develop technical skills, understand the dynamics of the productive sector, participate in engineering projects, and expand their view of the different areas of activity for mechanical engineers.
Internships, whether mandatory or non-mandatory, must be aligned with the student’s academic background and carried out in accordance with current legislation, respecting the academic calendar, the course curriculum, and the rules of the Universidade de São Paulo and the Escola Politécnica.
The internship activity does not constitute an employment relationship, provided that legal requirements are observed, such as the formalization of the Term of Commitment, compatibility between the internship workload and academic activities, supervision by a supervisor, and the contracting of personal accident insurance. In the case of a non-mandatory internship, the granting of compatible remuneration and transportation assistance is mandatory.
At PME, the connection between students, faculty, companies, and institutions is understood as an essential part of Mechanical Engineering education. This interaction helps to expand internship opportunities, strengthen the relationship with the productive sector, and support the professional insertion of students.
Internship requests must be made by the student themselves through the e-Estágios system, at least 15 business days in advance of the internship start date or the date by which the company needs to receive the signed documents, whichever comes first. Retroactive requests, requests made by email, or requests made by third parties are not accepted.
Before starting the request, it is recommended that the student carefully read the available instructions, check for any pending issues from previous internships, and organize their class schedule considering the legal workload limits and the times of academic activities.

Course: PME3597 - Estágio Supervisionado
The course PME3597 — Estágio Supervisionado aims to formalize and monitor the completion of the academic internship in the field of Mechanical Engineering, allowing the student to integrate and consolidate the knowledge acquired throughout the course through a supervised professional activity.
The course has 6 work credits, with a total workload of 180 hours, of which 120 hours are counted as extension workload. It is offered on a semester basis and involves the development of internship activities related to Mechanical Engineering, according to the regulations established by the Departamento.
During the course, the student must carry out the internship under appropriate supervision and prepare the respective report, recording the activities carried out, the knowledge applied, and the relationship between the professional experience and their academic background.
