The Doctoral program of the Graduate Program in Transportation Engineering (PPGET) is a stricto sensu research-oriented program. Upon fulfilling all program requirements, the student will be awarded the title of Doctor of Science.
The maximum deadline for submission of the doctoral thesis is 56 months, and students must register for the qualification examination within 28 months from their initial enrollment.
Doctoral students holding a Master’s degree from USP or recognized by USP must complete a minimum of credit units as follows:
– 152 (one hundred fifty-two) credit units, of which 2 (thirty-two) credits in coursework and
120 (one hundred twenty) credits in the thesis.

The Doctoral Selection Process consists of three (3) stages:
- First Stage (ELIMINATORY):
- Written subject exam;
- English language proficiency;
- Analysis of the Lattes Curriculum Vitae and undergraduate and Master’s academic transcripts
- Second Stage (ELIMINATORY): Oral examination (interview/defense)
- Third Stage (ELIMINATORY): Presentation of a research project proposal

Application Form – DOCTORAL 2027
The candidate may self-identify as Black, Brown (Pardo), or Indigenous. To do so, the candidate must attach the corresponding self-identification statement, according to the templates available on the official admissions webpage, to the electronic application form. The document must be signed using a digital signature through Gov.br. For foreign candidates, a certified digital signature will be accepted.
Indigenous candidates must submit their self-identification statement together with the RANI (Administrative Registry of Indigenous Birth), issued by FUNAI (National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples), or an Ethnic Belonging Statement signed by leaders of their respective community.
Heteroidentification: The self-identification of Black and Brown (Pardo) candidates will be verified by a specific committee and a heteroidentification panel, in accordance with USP Resolution CoIP No. 8835. The color photograph of the candidate’s face submitted with the application form will be used for this purpose at the time of application. Details regarding the heteroidentification panel will be sent by email to candidates who self-identify as Black or Brown (Pardo).
Candidates who self-identify in the application form as Black, Brown (Pardo), Indigenous, and/or as belonging to families registered in the Brazilian Unified Registry for Social Programs (Cadastro Único) will receive an additional one (1) point for each component of the final score (specific examination and analysis of the Lattes Curriculum and academic transcript).

The English proficiency exam is administered by the Interdepartmental Language Center of the School of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH) at USP.
The exam is administered once per year and in person. The result is valid for two (2) years.

- Candidates who apply in September and October:
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (candidates must arrive 30 minutes in advance).
Location: To be determined, at the facilities of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP). - Candidates who apply in the other months in which applications are open: the specific examination will be held within 45 (forty-five) business days after the candidate’s application has been approved in the Selection Process.
Candidates residing outside the State of São Paulo or abroad must indicate the faculty member(s), in accordance with the provisions of the Call for Applications, within 7 (seven) calendar days, by sending the information to the PPGET Secretariat at ppget.poli@usp.br.

English proficiency certificates – Only those listed in the Public Notices and within their validity period will be accepted.
The result of the English Proficiency Exam administered by FFLCH is valid for two (2) years. To use a valid result, select the FFLCH exam option during the PPGET application and inform the year the exam was taken by email to ppget.poli@usp.br.
