The Doctoral program of the Graduate Program in Transportation Engineering (PPGET) is a stricto sensu research-oriented program. Upon fulfilling all program requirements, the student will be awarded the title of Doctor of Science.
The maximum deadline for submission of the doctoral thesis is 56 months, and students must register for the qualification examination within 28 months from their initial enrollment.
Doctoral students holding a Master’s degree from USP or recognized by USP must complete a minimum of credit units as follows:
– 152 (one hundred fifty-two) credit units, of which 2 (thirty-two) credits in coursework and
120 (one hundred twenty) credits in the thesis.

The Doctoral Selection Process consists of three (3) stages:
- First Stage (ELIMINATORY):
- Written subject exam;
- English language proficiency;
- Analysis of the Lattes Curriculum Vitae and undergraduate and Master’s academic transcripts
- Second Stage (ELIMINATORY): Oral examination (interview/defense)
- Third Stage (ELIMINATORY): Presentation of a research project proposal

Application Form – DOCTORAL
Applicants may self-declare at the time of application as Black, Brown (mixed race), Indigenous, transgender, persons with disabilities, and/or individuals belonging to families with a per capita household income of less than two minimum wages. These candidates will receive an additional one (1) point in each component of the final score (English proficiency exam, written subject exam, and analysis of the Lattes CV and academic record).
The applicant must complete the appropriate self-declaration form, save it as a PDF, sign it using a GOV.br digital signature, and upload it during the application process.

The English proficiency exam is administered by the Interdepartmental Language Center of the School of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH) at USP.
The exam is administered once per year and in person. The result is valid for two (2) years.

As an alternative to the FFLCH-administered exam, the following certificates may be exceptionally accepted, provided they are valid or were issued up to three (3) years prior to the start of the Selection Process (whichever occurs first):
- TOEFL ITP: minimum 500 points
- TOEFL IBT: minimum 70 points
- IELTS: minimum 5.5
- Cambridge: Pass in FCE (B2), CAE (C1), or CPE (C2)
- Michigan: FCE or CPE (including computer-based), minimum 60%
- Duolingo English Test: minimum 90
- EF SET 50: minimum 55 (Reading only; Listening not considered). The applicant must record themselves taking the exam and send the recording to ppget.poli@usp.br along with the certificate.
Other accepted alternatives (with proper documentation):
- Native speakers from English-speaking countries
- Applicants who studied at a higher education institution for more than 12 months in a country where English is an official language
- Applicants who completed a professional internship for more than 12 months in a country where English is an official language

Previous exams – CCP-PPGET does not provide copies of past exams.
Bibliography – There is no required bibliography.
English proficiency certificates – Only those listed in the Public Notices and within their validity period will be accepted.
The result of the English Proficiency Exam administered by FFLCH is valid for two (2) years. To use a valid result, select the FFLCH exam option during the PPGET application and inform the year the exam was taken by email to ppget.poli@usp.br.
