Special students are those enrolled only in individual courses, without formal affiliation with any USP Graduate Program.
At PPGET, candidates approved in the second stage of the PPGET admission process are accepted as special students.
The following may also be admitted as special students, subject to approval by the course instructor(s):
- Candidates admitted to other graduate programs at Poli;
- USP undergraduate students;
- Pre-master’s students;
- Regular graduate students from institutions outside USP, with the following required documents:
- Letter from the supervisor explaining the relevance of the course to the student’s research;
- Proof of regular enrollment issued by the home institution;
- ID document (RG);
- Undergraduate transcript and diploma;
- Master’s transcript and diploma (for doctoral students).
Special students do not have the same privileges as regular students, such as:
- access to the Janus system (USP Graduate System),
- USP student ID cards,
- BUSP transportation card,
- and other institutional benefits.
At the Polytechnic School, courses are offered in three academic periods (quadrimesters).
Enrollment periods:
- February → courses of the 1st and 2nd periods
- August → courses of the 3rd period
Enrollment for special students is conducted outside the Janus system, through an electronic form.

Enrollment correction includes adding or dropping courses.
Only students who requested enrollment in February or August may request corrections.

⚠ Important:
If a student decides not to attend a course in which they are enrolled, they must formally request withdrawal. Otherwise, they will fail due to attendance.

➡ 75% attendance in graduate courses.
Student performance is expressed using the following grading system:

Candidates approved in the second stage of the PPGET admission process must submit a Research Proposal approved by the assigned supervisor by the deadline established in the admission call.
The research proposal must:
- follow the official letterhead template (Click here to download);
- be sent to ppget.poli@usp.br for approval by CCP-PPGET.
If approved, the administrative office will complete the student’s regular enrollment in the program.
