Most of the activities of the GPIB are carried out in the Department of Biotechnology, which is located on campus I of EEL/USP and presents 2600 m² of constructed area distributed among 13 research laboratories, 2 classrooms, 15 professor rooms, and rooms for students and technical-administrative staff. Also included in this area, are pilot plant facilities for acid hydrolysis and pretreatment of lignocellulosic materials. There are also facilities of general infrastructure composed of central library, computing center and support repair shop for maintenance activities. The research laboratories are under the responsibility of the professors accredited in the Program, and have modern equipment and all the support material for the development of experiments in the area of ​​Industrial Biotechnology. The infrastructure of the laboratories (equipment, civil, electrical and furnitures) has been continuously modernized with funds from projects sponsored by FAPESP, CNPq, USP and other sponsoring agencies.
