General Information

– Minimum, Special, and Excess Credits

Minimum Credits: The Master’s Degree Students must earn at least 96 credit units, consisting of 16 Course credits and 80 Thesis credits. The Students in the Direct Entry Doctorate Programs must earn at least 200 credit units, consisting of 24 Course credits and 176 Dissertation credits. The Doctoral Students with a previous Master’s Degree must earn at least 184 credit units, consisting of 8 Course credits and 176 Dissertation credits.

Special Credits: Equivalent to Course credits, a maximum of 8 (eight) special credits may be awarded to the Master’s Program, 4 (four) to the Doctoral Program, and 12 (twelve) to the Direct Entry Doctoral Program as follows:

For students enrolled before 06/2019:
– A complete study published in a journal with an impact factor equal to or greater than 1.50. The publication date must be later than the student’s registration date. The student must be the first author and the study must be related to the thesis or dissertation project. Two credits will be awarded for each work published.

 

For students enrolled as of 06/2019:
– A complete study published in a journal with an impact factor equal to or greater than 1.50. The publication date must be later than the student’s registration date. The student must be the first author and the study must be related to the thesis or dissertation project. Two credits will be awarded for each work published.

– Participation in Supervised Teaching Internship in the Teaching Improvement Program (PAE, Programa de Aperfeiçoamento de Ensino) will merit 2 (two) special credits.

 

Excess Credits:  Credits in excess for a Master’s Degree, which were earned up to 36 months prior to enrollment in the Doctoral Program, may count towards the Doctorate. (Article 44 of the USP Graduate Program Bylaws)

 

– Mandatory Courses

The students in the Master’s or Direct Entry Doctoral Program must earn 10 (ten) of the total Course credits by taking the following mandatory Courses:

– MGO 5759 – Medical Statistics applied to Obstetrics and Gynecology – 6 credits;

– MGO5758 – Ethics and Research in Obstetrics and Gynecology – 4 credits.

 

The Students in the Doctoral Program must earn 6 (six) of the total Course credits by taking the following mandatory Course:

– MGO 5759 – Medical Statistics applied to Obstetrics and Gynecology – 6 credits.

 

– Weekly meetings of the Obstetrics Clinic and the Gynecology Clinic

Attendance at the weekly meetings of the Obstetrics Clinic and the Gynecology Clinic is mandatory for the graduate students. The meetings are held every Wednesday morning according to the Weekly Notice sent by e-mail.

 

– Participation in an Outpatient Clinic

Graduate Students must participate in at least one Outpatient Clinic, preferably related to their Research Projects.

 

– Weekly workload

Graduate Students must dedicate 20 hours per week distributed among participation in an Outpatient Clinic, participation in Courses, attendance at Clinic Meetings, and work on Thesis/Dissertation.

 

– Evaluation of academic and scientific performance

1) Students will be evaluated every semester for their activity reports. The reports must be submitted every semester by the Students according to the Committee for the Coordination of the Graduate Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CCP, Comissão Coordenadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Obstetrícia e Ginecologia) timetable released by the department office and published on the Program website;

2) The report must be submitted along with the Advisor’s evaluation of the Student’s academic and scientific performance;

3) The Student who fails the report must turn in a new report within 30 (thirty) days of the release date of the evaluation results by the Program office;

4) In addition to the rules set out in the USP Graduate Bylaws, the Student must be aware of the rule stipulating dismissal from the Graduate Program (Master’s, Doctoral, or Direct Entry Doctoral Program) in the event of one of the following:

  1. a) consecutively failing the biannual report twice;
  2. b) failing to submit the biannual report within the timeframe established by the yearly calendar released by the Graduate Program Office and posted on its website.

 

– Dismissal

Students enrolled in the Master’s or Doctoral Program may be dismissed from the Program in the following cases:

1) If they fail the same Course twice or fail three distinct Courses;

2) If they do not succeed in Enrolling according to regulations in two consecutive terms within the time frame of the school calendar posted by the Graduate Committee (CoPGr, Comissão de Pós-Graduação).

3) If they fail the Qualifying Exam twice;

4) If they fail to accomplish activities or fulfill requirements within the time frame established in the bylaws;

5) If they request it.
