ALEXANDRE ORLANDI PASSOS

Master in Mineral Engineering from the Department of Mining and Petroleum Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (2015) and Graduated in Geological Engineering from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (1988). He was a systems analyst, head of a seismic team in the Amazon, mine geologist, regional mining coordinator, plant manager and operational manager in Brazil of one of the largest mining companies in the country. Professional with over 30 years of experience in the industrial and Mining, with local and corporate operations, structuring areas, systematizing processes and defining operational strategies and guidelines, with a high focus on results and people. He has coordinated the preparation of the Sustainable Mining Chapter for the Government of Minas Gerais’ Disaster Task Force at Samarco and has been leading I9 Mining projects at the Mining Hub associated with dam monitoring and tailings recovery. He currently works in applied technological development, where, in addition to developing his own projects, he coordinates the area of innovation and sustainability at NAP.Mineração/USP in supporting companies in structuring RD&I sectors and developing innovation and sustainable mining projects.

MARJO DE THEIJE

Anthropologist and associate professor at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at VU University Amsterdam. She received her Ph.D. in Social Sciences at the University of Utrecht in 1999. Member of the editorial board of ERLACS, European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She is currently also academic director of the VU Brazil Academic Program at VU University and coordinates several international research projects.

MARCELLO VEIGA

PhD in Mineral Engineering from the Department of Mining and Petroleum Engineering of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, graduation in Physics from the Bandeirante University of São Paulo. Experience in Mining Engineering, with emphasis on mining, working mainly in the use of mining software in mining projects and in the application of geophysical methods to support mining planning. Currently supporting the project “Small-Scale Mining Studies through the Integration of Geological Data and Geophysical Modeling to Improve Clean and Sustainable Exploitation”. DENNIS TRAVAGINI CREMONESE

Mining Engineer (USP/2010), Master in Mineral Engineering (USP/2014), MBA in Logistics and Operations (UNISA/2015), Doctorate in Mineral Engineering (USP/2019) and Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma (CAE/2021 ). He has experience in Industrial Projects and Mining Optimization, Processing Plant, Railways and Ports. It participated in projects with ores of gold, copper, bauxite, asbestos, nickel, iron and niobium, aggregates, vegetable bulk (soybeans and sugar), fertilizers and liquid bulk. His knowledge involves asset optimization, sizing, equipment selection and specification, reliability study and dynamic simulation, being a PhD Professor in the area. He is currently a Researcher at NAP.Mineração and Founding Partner of Dynamine Consultoria em Engenharia, working in the management and development of projects for all sizes of companies and systems focused on leading small and medium-sized mining for Industry 4.0.

HÉLIO ALEXANDRE LAZARIM

Professional with over 25 years of career in the mining industry, having held executive positions in large companies such as Vale, Mineração Rio do Norte and Anglo American. He was general manager and head of operational and strategic planning areas, where he led the implementation of innovation and sustainable development projects in the companies where he worked. He is currently a collaborating researcher at the University of São Paulo and works in partnership with the DPI (Development Partner Institute) in Brazil. In addition, he serves as a member of the Gold Matters Project for the development of responsible small-scale mining in South America and Africa. The main lines of work aim to foster, through innovation, the development of multi-stakeholder discussions in industrial sectors and the implementation of projects aimed at ensuring sustainability in operational areas.

JACOPO SECCATORE

Civil engineer from the Polytechnic of Torino, Italy (2008), holds a M.Sc. from the same Polytechnic in Geoengineering (2010) and a PhD in Mineral Engineering from the University of São Paulo, Brazil (2014). Currently Professor of Mining Engineering and Director of the iUAI Mining Center at Adolfo Ibañez University in Chile. Founder, former coordinator and current scientific counselor of the Experimental Mine Project of the University of São Paulo. He has specific experience in Explosives Engineering for Mining and Civil applications, tunneling and underground spaces, Open Pit and Underground Mining. Acts as a consultant for Polytechnic of Torino (Italy), the University of British Columbia (Canada), the World Gold Council (UK) the GOMIAM Project (EU), and various companies and public administrations worldwide. Full Member of the of the Order of Engineers, Italy, since 2010, of the International Society of Explosives Engineers, USA since 2010, of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Australia, since 2015, of the Society of Mining Professors (Societät der Bergbaukunde) – SOMP since 2016. Founder member and former part of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Association of Explosives Engineering. Associate Editor of the journal Revista Escola de Minas – REM.

TATIANE MARIN

Mining Engineer from USP (2005), Safety Engineer from EPUSP (2008), MSc in Mineral Engineering from USP (2009), Ph.D. in Mineral Engineering (2015). She is currently a senior researcher at NAP.Mineração, postdoctoral fellow in the Min_AO² project. Areas of expertise include mine governance, geological modelling, mine planning and design of open pit and underground mines, mine process mapping and mine simulation.

ADEYINKA O. OMOTEHINSE

Professor at the Department of Mining Engineering at the Federal University of Technology Akure in Nigeria. She completed her Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2020. She has published several articles in scientific journals. She is a reviewer for the Journal of Cleaner Production and Natural Resources Research. She is an experienced speaker with a proven track record of working in the mining and metals industry primarily in the following specialties: mine planning; mineral economy; sustainable mining and mining software. Dr. Omotehinse is a registered member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM); Nigeria Engineering Regulatory Council (COREN); and a registered member of the Nigerian Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG).
