Oral Health Literacy

The dissemination of information through virtual channels represents an important tool for the dissemination of knowledge and can contribute to the improvement of health literacy levels, particularly in childhood, which is a very opportune period of life for health education.

The general objective of this platform is centered on education in oral health, with the purpose of disseminating knowledge about oral health and forms of disease prevention in parallel with the training of human resources in Basic Education to include these topics in the classroom.

As specific objectives, we intend to: (i) Contribute to the training of Basic Education teachers in topics related to oral health; (ii) Disseminate information about oral health to Basic Education students, aiming to collaborate in the acquisition of autonomy for self-care; (iii) Enable students to experience activities related to the generation of knowledge through the presentation of research carried out at the University.

To learn more about the project, just access the YouTube channel “Alfabeização em Saúde Oral”, available at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzDOHww6FRTuewzYU5jBuGg. This channel provides weekly educational videos for children and caregivers, as well as video lessons for professionals involved in education and health care in childhood. Master’s and Doctorate students from the Graduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry at FORP-USP (CAPES 6), undergraduate students in Dentistry and pre-initiation scientific students participate in this project.

Dissemination courses are offered remotely on the Moodle Platform for Culture and Extension at USP. Users and students interested in participating in the project can contact the team via email (franciscogarcia@usp.br) and on social media (@professormolaris or @prof.francisco.odontopediatra).
