Project Child

“Projeto Criança” (Project child) has been developed under the leadership of a Professor on the program (Prof. Dra. Raquel Assed Bezerra Segato). Participants include Undergraduate and Postgraduate students and financial assistance from the Dean of culture and extension at USP since 2012.  This is an educational/ social project that aims to provide knowledge to those in the population who are unaware of the problem and improve people’s perception of health and generate educational material. The project arose due to the lack of oral health programs aimed solely at the child population in Ribeirão Preto, particularly for those between 3 and 9 years of age.  The project aims at providing for the dissemination of the concepts of promotion and prevention in oral health as well as giving oral health guidelines and transmitting information regarding food care. In addition, it aims to illustrate the consequences of a lack of basic care in oral health.  The principal is to develop activities and compatible language in a playful manner in order to arouse the interest and participation of children.

The project develops activities throughout the school year in state schools in Ribeirão Preto and the region during the Dental Faculty work period.

All of the activities are supervised by 1 Professor on the program and are carried out by Undergraduate and Postgraduate students on the Pediatric Dentistry program at FORP/USP.

The students carry out the educational activities using appropriate language and in a playful way with theatrical and musical presentations and videos. These activities aim to not only arouse children’s interest in oral hygiene but to also introduce information about the importance of oral health and the etiology of the main oral diseases to them.
