ADVANCED RESEARCH CENTER IN MONTE NEGRO, STATE OF RONDÔNIA

The Advanced Research Center in Monte Negro, State of Rondônia, established in February, 1997, provides free medical and dental assistance to local population. It includes a Specialized Medical Center for treating tropical diseases, and a complete 240 m² research laboratory. In addition, it has a 40 mclinical laboratory, a 200m2 insectary, several vehicles and boats for transporting research teams, lodging for 60 people and an auditorium for 50 people. In collaboration with “Faculdade de Odontologia de Bauru” (Bauru Dental School), of USP, it was established a dental health center with complete dental and speech therapy offices. The Department of Parasitology maintains a faculty member living in Monte Negro, who coordinates assistance and research activities related to several neglected endemic diseases in Amazonia, such as malaria, leishmaniasis, filariasis, toxoplasmosis, deep mycosis and Chagas disease. Numerous national and international collaborations were entered by the “Centro Avançado de Pesquisa em Monte Negro”, resulting in outstanding scientific production and training of people.
