Following the tradition of Samuel Pessoa’s school of thought in Parasitology, the Department of Parasitology set up advanced laboratories in the states of Rondônia (in 1997) and Acre (in 2004), dedicated to studies on malaria, leishmaniasis and several other parasitic endemic diseases of medical and veterinary interest. The presence of field laboratories in Amazonia provides extensive field training on projects in the areas of Parasitology, Public Health and Tropical Medicine for undergraduate and graduate students.
