With the finalization of the purchase of BG (British Gas) by Shell, last August, the Anglo-Dutch company officially became a co-founder of the Research Centre for Gas Innovation – RCGI, together with the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
“With the end of the transition phase of the acquisition of BG by Shell, which started at the beginning of this year (2016), the Anglo-Dutch company became our partner. The acquisition process took a long time, because it needed the approval of both the shareholders of the two companies and the regulatory agencies of the petroleum and natural gas sectors in all of the countries where the two companies have headquarters,” explains the Academic Coordinator of RCGI, Professor Júlio Meneghini.
According to him, having the giant Shell as a partner is very good for RCGI. “This is one of the largest companies in the world. We are in the phase of building a closer relationship with Shell and they are happy with RCGI’s work. Researchers from Shell Houston, Amsterdam, and India have begun to follow RCGI’s projects, for the purpose of collaborating. A little farther down the road, I imagine we can project the eventual inclusion of other partnerships with research institutes and universities, and even with other projects.”
