Prior to that, he had obtained a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from EPUSP—M.Sc. in 1993 and B.Sc. in 1987, respectively.

His research interests concern aerodynamics with particular emphasis on compressible flows. Over the years since his return to EPUSP, he has been investigating the adjoint method with respect to its conceptual foundations. In the course of these activities, he has turned his attention to the evaluation of sensitivities other than those pertaining to geometry optimization. His latest research finds potential applications in computing aerodynamics stability derivatives and in determining the envelope of operations  for flow related devices.

Prof. Volpe has coordinated and taken part of research projects sponsored by Embraer–Fapesp, Petrobras–ANP, Faspep–British Petroleum (BP) and Shell. He is responsible for the course “Complements of Mathematics for Engineers I”, from the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering at EPUSP, and teaches undergraduate courses of Aerodynamics, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer Laboratory.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
