Pharmacogovernance: Concept and Challenges

Concept

The pharmaceutical industrie deals directly with the people’s health. That’s the reason the activity is careful watched by multiple stakeholders and regulated by the government. The way in which government structures (law creation and enforcement, public polices, etc.) and some other non-government institutions interacts with the private sector regarding the public health (drug safety, societal interest, etc.) could be defined as PHARMACOGOVERNANCE.

Challenges

Despite of the existence of the National Agency of Sanitary Surveillance (ANVISA) that holds the regulatory governance it is difficult to mesure the power of enforcement and the efficacy of their actions. Also the acting of a solid national non-governmental governance is not remarkable. The governance regarding the public health remains weakened by the huge potential of the large corporations whose controls the pharmaceutical sector.
