MSc in Geochronology and Tectonic (USP-1981), PhD in Isotope Geology (USP-1988), Livre-docente in Isotope Geology and Crustal Evolution (USP-1996). The first degree is in Geology from Instituto f Geosciences of USP. He holds a specialization in isotope geology at the University of Oxford (UK) in 1983 and Blaise Pascal University, Clermont-Ferrand (France) in 1988
He is currently a level 1A researcher at CNPQ, Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Member of the São Paulo Academy of Sciences and Member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. He is director of the Institute of Energy and Environment of USP.
He currently supervisor and teaches in two postgraduate programs at USP. The Program of Geochemistry and Tectonics of the Institute of Geosciences (Note 7 of CAPES – maximum note) and Energy Program of the Institute of Energy and Environment (Note 6 of CAPES).
Nowadays work with evaluation of the sedimentary basins for shale gas/oil exploration and for geological storage of CO2 in CCUS context. He is coordinator of the Project on the Evaluation of the Potential of Geological Unconventional Reservoirs in Southeast Brazil for CO2 Storage linked to SHELL / FAPESP and coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology, INCT, of Analytical Techniques Applied to Oil and Gas Exploration (from 2009).
In the web of Science it has 1567 citations in 70 scientific works and Factor H of 22. In Scopus it has 1553 citations in 103 scientific works.
