Biography
He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (1998), a master’s degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (2000), and a doctorate from the Fritz Haber Institut der Max Planck Gesellschaft, with a thesis defended at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany (2003). He completed a Post-Doctoral internship at the Department of Experimental Physics (E19) at Technische Universität München – Germany. He was a Young Researcher supported by FAPESP between 2005 and early 2007 and has been a Full Professor at the São Carlos Institute of Chemistry (IQSC) at USP since 2017. He has experience in the area of Physical Chemistry, with an emphasis on Complex Systems, Non-Linear Dynamics and Electrochemistry.
He has published more than 150 articles in refereed scientific journals, five book chapters, and more than 200 contributions to scientific events. Presented more than 180 oral contributions in the form of seminars, invited lectures, and communications at national and international congresses: Brazil, Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, France, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, South Korea, and China.
He is a founding member and, since November 2010, Managing Scientist of the “Ertl Center for Electrochemistry and Catalysis” in the city of Gwangju, South Korea. He was elected in 2009 as an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2010–2014). He is a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo (ACIESP) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). He received the Skinner Prize from the RSC (2001) and the first edition of the Ertl Prize (2012), awarded by the 2007 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, G. Ertl. He was a Member of the CNPq Chemistry Board between 10.2020 and 06.2023; Office Advisor to the Dean of Research at USP between 03/2015 and 06/2018; Executive Director of ACIESP between 06.2015 and 10.2019; Senior Advisor to the Rector of USP (01 to 09.2022); he was Deputy Director (05.2018 to 04.2022) and is currently the Director (05.2022 to 04.2026) of IQSC/USP.
