A revolution in the Carbon Credit Market, driven by science, transparency, and accessibility
The first and only global carbon registry born within a research centre and a public university.
The RCGI Carbon Registry is an initiative developed by the Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation at the University of São Paulo (RCGI-USP), an international reference in research and innovation, celebrating 10 years of excellence in 2025.
Our platform combines academic rigour, advanced technology, and economic accessibility to accelerate the low-carbon economy in Brazil and worldwide.
Projects with a solid scientific foundation, audited and validated by the excellence of USP and RCGI, the first Carbon Registry Initiative to be associated with a public university.
Methodologies and processes audited according to global practices, with focus on CCB, ensuring that projects generate significant impacts on communities.
Democratising access to the benefits of both the voluntary and regulated carbon markets.
Complete and pioneering integration with the Brazilian Emissions Trading System, ensuring full compliance.
Development of unique and effective methodologies tailored to Brazilian biomes (Caatinga, Cerrado, Pantanal, Amazon forest, Atlantic forest...), adapted to the socio-environmental context.
While traditional registries often consider socio-environmental benefits (CCB – Climate, Community & Biodiversity) as optional, at the RCGI-USP Carbon Registry, these benefits are mandatory for all Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and Industrial projects.
We have innovated by creating CCB-SS (Climate, Community, Biodiversity – Social & Science), exclusive to industrial projects.
This means all industrial projects must directly support scientific, technological, or social initiatives, further strengthening the commitment to sustainable development and cutting-edge research.
Every project registered with the RCGI-USP Carbon Registry generates real and measurable impacts:
• Community and Environmental Benefits (CCB): Reforestation, biodiversity protection, local social development, among others.
• Support for Scientific and Social Research (CCB-SS): A portion of the resources is directly allocated to scientific and technological research at academic and research institutions, as well as relevant social initiatives—accelerating climate solutions and promoting community and biodiversity development.
Your project can regenerate the planet, empower communities, and boost Brazilian science.
• International Scientific Committee: Experts from RCGI-USP and international researchers ensure excellence and technical robustness;
• Independent and Transparent Governance: Ethics, methodology, and audit committees guarantee clear and trustworthy processes;
• Active Research Programmes at RCGI-USP: NBS, BECCS, CCU, GHG, Advocacy, and Decarbonisation.
