(Project concluded on November 30, 2020)
This project aims to monitor internationally the development of standards and models of energy management, energy performance, energy savings, CO2 abatement, applicable to the Natural Gas industry related to production, processing, transportation, distribution and use, among the international organizations, especially the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), UNIDO (United Nations for Industrial Development Organization), UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) and other multilateral organizations. It seeks to identify the main initiatives to promote energy performance and energy savings through the promotion of energy management systems, as well as to monitor international regulatory and standardization efforts related to CO2 abatement in the natural gas chain.
The objective of this research is to analyze the international efforts related to regulation and standardization, as well as to evaluate mechanisms of accounting and reporting of CO2 abatement associated to the energy savings and promotion of the energy performance improvement in the activities of the Natural Gas chain, especially in the production, processing, transportation, distribution and use. It is intended not only to identify and evaluate the industrial processes of this chain, but also to produce reference studies that can serve as a basis for the CO2 abatement guidelines through energy savings. Associated accounting protocols are also the project’s goal in order to promote climate change mitigation agreements and their regulatory policies and tools that can improve their accessibility and promote a sustainable scenario for the Natural Gas.
