After approved by CAPES (Improvement Coordination of High-Education Personnel) the Graduate Studies Program “Public Health Nutrition” started in 2007, being a unique program in Brazil since it aggregates a group of highly-skilled researchers in Nutritional Epidemiology and Human Nutrition, and Food Science, areas concerned about the Public Health issues and solutions connected to Nutrition and Food.
Thus, epidemiological studies have diagnosed relevant nutritional disturbances within the population to whom interventions are formulated and evaluated, requiring, most of the time, special foods, developed and tested.
This integrated approach in healthcare issues is the philosophy of this new program.
The Program counts on eight (8) laboratories of the Department of Nutrition, and the infrastructure of the Faculty of Public Health and of the University of São Paulo, which include
- Computational laboratories;
- Access to common-use softwares;
- Library;
- Resources for research activities in hospitals and healthcare services connected to USP such as HC (Clinics Hospital), HU (University Hospital), Institute of the Child, Healthcare Centers of Butantã and Paula Souza, Reference Center for Prevention and Control of Nutrition-associated Diseases, Vivariums, SIBI (Library-Integrated Services), which allows using the bibliographic collection available at USP as well as additional subscriptions to periodicals which cannot be found at CAPES website.
